There have been eight positive cases directly among the competitors.

Six British competitors had to isolate themselves in their Athletes’ Games rooms after being identified as close contacts of someone on their flight who later tested positive for COVID-19.

The US tennis player Coco Gauff was forced to abandoned her hopes and pulled out from the Games after testing positive before arriving in Tokyo, while Great Britain’s Dan Evans and Johanna Konta and world number one shooter Amber Hill also withdrew from the games due the COVID-19 pandemic.
