The Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel has taken steps to evacuate 20 Sri Lankan families staying in the conflict areas of the Gaza Strip, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Israel Nimal Bandara said.
However, the situation is not severe to implement relief camps or similar relief programmes in the country and the security of all Sri Lankans in Israel will be looked into, the Ambassador said. The Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel has informed Sri Lankans that there is a risk of attacks on the cities close to Lebanon and Syria in the north of Israel and therefore the security instructions has been given to the Sri Lankans living in those areas to be properly followed.
The Israeli media has reported that there is a risk of attacks near the villages of Nahariya, Ako, Haifa, Tiberias, and Nazareth, which are close to Lebanon and Syria. Therefore, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel has asked the Sri Lankans living in the respective areas to follow the safety instructions given to them and to keep medicines, food and other essential items with them.
However, he pointed out that the Israeli government had directed security forces to those areas to strengthen security and that the people living in the northern areas of the Gaza Strip had been given 24 hours to evacuate to the southern areas.
