Twenty three seizers granted bail
Twenty three people of a financial institution who were arrested by the Police while breaking into an office of a commercial and housing complex located in Kompangaveediya have been released on bail.
Police said that they were released on police bail after reaching an agreement between the relevant financial institution and the owner of the building.
The Police also said they had been informed to appear before the Colombo Fort Magistrate Court on the 12th. This building with 09 floors is located at Kompangaveediya Navam Mawatha. Its owner is an Indian national. He is married to a Sri Lankan woman.
The Police said that the woman and the Indian national were divorced 18 years ago. Police say that she is currently residing in the Nawala area and she is living with another person.
“The Indian national also lives with another woman at Bullers Lane in Colombo,” Police said.
Police say that the owner of where this building stands is the wife of the Indian national. Police said that she had mortgaged this land to a financial institution for Rs. 800 million a few years ago.
But she had defaulted on her payments and there is an ongoing court case in this regard. Police also said that 11 institutions owned by the Indian national are located in this building. On the advice of the relevant financial institution, the seizers broke into this building at around 11.30 on the Saturday night.
