Twenty-two underworld shootings in last 60 days result in 20 deaths
Exactly 20 people have been killed in 22 shootings in the last 60 days between May 31 and July 31 and which are said to be connected to underworld criminals who have fled the country.
On May 31 a person was killed and another seriously injured in a shooting incident that took place at Bastian Mawatha, Colombo which according to sources is related to underworld rivalry.
With that shooting, 22 shootings have been carried out by the underworld with 16 of them occurring in the Western Province and six in the Southern Province.
The highest number of shootings and killings have taken place in the Colombo district. In Colombo, 10 shootings had taken place with eight deaths reported.
Altogether 14 people have been killed in shootings in the Western Province with 8 deaths reported in Colombo, four in Gampaha and two in Kalutara.
The number of people who have been killed in underworld shootings in the Southern Province is six with five from the Galle District and one from the Hambantota District.
Police have not been able to solve most of these murders so far. This is because all the killings are said to be coordinated by underworld criminals residing outside the country.
Police investigations have revealed that these murders were coordinated by individuals residing in countries such as France, Dubai and India.
These killings took place at Bastian Mawatha, Colombo, Aluthgama, Panadura, Ahangama, Tangalle, Modara, Wattala, Peliyagoda, Moratuwa, Ratmalana, Ambalangoda, Gampaha, Rathgama, Kotahena and the Wellampitiya Police Divisions.
