Two Agri Ministry officials transferred for delaying urea tender

0 2

The Agriculture Ministry transferred the two officials who delayed the fertilizer tender for three months from the Agriculture Ministry.

Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera had got Cabinet approval to buy the urea fertilizer needed by the farmers this Maha season and instructed officials dealing with fertilizers in the Ministry to call the relevant tenders for the purchase of fertilizers as soon as possible.

But it has been revealed that three months have passed since Cabinet approval was obtained, but the two responsible officials dealing with it have not taken any action to call for urea tenders.

There is a risk of rising prices of all fertilizers including urea fertilizers in the world market due to the war conflicts between several countries. If we had arranged to buy this fertilizer in May when the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers was received, it would have been possible to buy urea fertilizer at a very low price.

At that time, it was possible to buy one metric tonne of urea in the world market for about 350 dollars, and due to the war situation, the amount has now exceeded USD 650.

It appears that the government has incurred a huge financial loss due to this. By delaying the tender for three months, the government is losing a lot of money and causing inconvenience to the farmers in providing fertilizer from time to time and it appears that these two officers have deliberately neglected their duty.

Due to this, the Agriculture Ministry decided to immediately remove the relevant senior officer and the officer who was in charge of the supply of fertilizers from the Ministry and transfer them elsewhere.
