Two AG’s Dept workers held for attempting to sell elephant pearls

Two office assistants working at the Attorney General’s Department have been arrested by the Ja-Ela Police Station officers while trying to sell an elephant pearl for Rs.6.3 million.

Two residents of Godakawela Halugasthanne and Mahiyangana Arawatte have been arrested. Police said they are aged 32 and 28 years. Police had arrested the suspects following information regarding an attempt to sell elephant pearls. Police had used decoys posing as businessmen willing to buy the elephant pearls to nab the suspects.

During the interrogation, the suspect, residing in Mahiyangana, has said that the elephant pearl had been in his house for many years.The two suspects were to be produced before the Welisara Magistrate’s Court.
