The Commercial Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department has arrested two suspects involved in attacking and setting fire to a car in which a Deputy Inspector General of Police was travelling in Panchikawatta during the period of unrest on May 9 last year. Prior to this,
no suspect had been arrested for setting fire to the DIG’s vehicle. Accordingly, these two are the first suspects arrested in connection with this incident.
During the attack the DIG and his driver had sought refuge in a nearby house and if not their lives may have been in danger.
Police said that the car was entirely gutted in the arson attack. The two suspects, aged 31 and 18 are residents of Maligawatte.
