Two arrested over June 17 shooting in Minuwangoda

The Special Task Force arrested two persons, including a retired Army soldier, in connection with the recent shooting incident in Minuwangoda where a man was killed and another injured.

The two were shot at while riding a motorcycle.

The suspects have been handed over to the Western Province Northern Crime Division for further investigation.

The Police Special Task Force stated that the retired army soldier is a 37-year-old resident of Nikaweratiya and the other suspect is a 33-year-old resident of Kotugoda Yagodamulla.

These two suspects were arrested near the entrance of Manning Market in Peliyagoda. Police also found 11 grams and 200 milligrams of heroin in the possession of the suspects. Investigations have revealed that the two are closely associated to the underworld criminal named Heenatiyana Mahesh, who is in Dubai, and they had aided and abetted in the shooting in Minuwangoda.

The shooter involved in the incident that took place on June 17 was killed by in a shooting by the police Special Task Force in a house in Embilipitiya. The man who drove the car in which the shooters were traveling was also found by the officers of the Gonahena Special Task Force camp earlier.
