Two contracted to shoot another arrested

According to the contract of an underworld criminal involved in drug trafficking staying in Dubai, two underworld members who were

travelling on a motorcycle with a firearm and a hand grenade were arrested by the officers of the Kelaniya Division Crime Investigation Bureau on Tuesday (17) night.

A Police officer said that the underworld criminal named ‘Shakthi’ had demanded a ransom of Rs.10 lakhs from the relevant massage centre in Kadawatha and due to non-payment of that amount; they had prepared to kill him with the help of henchmen.

The officer said that according to the information received by the Police in advance, officers of the Kelaniya Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau stopped the motorcycles travelling from Kandy towards Colombo at the junction where Kadawatha turns to Ragama road and conducted an immediate inspection. During the inspection of one of the two motorcycles, a hand grenade made in a foreign country was found in the possession of the rider, and a revolver with four rounds of ammunition was found in the possession of the rear rider.

Police said that one person is a 24-year-old resident of Meegahawatta Welipara area engaged in fish trading and the second is a 29-year-old resident of Kelaniya Pattiya area who is working as a driver. The firearm was found in the possession of the 24-year-old suspect engaged in the fish trade.

Police said that they will interrogate the two suspects at length to uncover information about the crimes they have committed before.
