Two doctors clash in presence of patients, hospital staff

Two doctors were involved in a fight yesterday (19) afternoon at the Anuradhapura hospital.   The Anuradhapura Police state that the fight took place in the office of the Deputy Director of the Anuradhapura Hospital.

The fight happened between the Planning Director doctor and the Obstetrician and Gynecologist.

The specialist doctor came to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) office in Anuradhapura and lodged a complaint that he was assaulted by the Planning Director doctor. The Planning Director went to the Anuradhapura Police and lodged a complaint that he was assaulted by the Obstetrician.

After lodging the two Police complaints, both doctors were admitted to the Anuradhapura Hospital for treatment.

There were a large number of patients in the hospital when the clash took place after a heated argument between the two doctors. Police information stated that the clash occurred in the presence of the patients as well as the staff members.

A senior Police officer said that it is clear from the complaints made by the two doctors to the police that the origin of this fight was a plan that was allegedly carried out without the Obstetrician and Gynecologist.

The officer said that a conflict regarding a duty has escalated into a fight. Police further said that a team from the Anuradhapura Police is conducting investigations.
