Two engineers held for GI pipe theft

Police have arrested two site engineers and two drivers of the New Kelani Bridge project for stealing and selling 190 GI pipes to a third party at Rs.1.6 million on Saturday.

The Kelaniya Divisional Crime Investigation Unit found those pipes while they were in the possession of a resident in Paradise Watte in Kotahena. Rs. 431,000 in cash was also taken into the police custody along with the suspects.

The suspected engineers aged 31 and 35 are residents of the Hikkaduwa and Weligama areas, police said.They were to be produced before the Aluthkade No. 5 Magistrate Courts. Police are conducting further investigations.
