Two escapees from Dickwella Police cell re-arrested
Two drug addicted persons held locked up at the Dickwella Police Station escaped by cutting the grills were arrested again by the Dickwella Police itself.
The two are residents of Dickwella. These two suspects were arrested September 1 in connection to an investigation of a break in to a house and robbing assets to the value of Rs.95000.
The two has had 2.750 and 2.550 milligrams of heroin in their possession. In the investigations into their escape it has been found that they had got down certain instruments through a fisherman from Kudawella, who visited them.Police revealed that the fisherman who helped them has fled and is in hiding. It has been found that the two suspects have even gone to sea with the fisherman and therefore they know each other well.
Only the two suspects had been in remand custody on September 1 and 2 nd and the two had cut the wires of the remand cell premises and escaped during this time. Although there were three Constables on duty, it has been revealed that during the time of their escape the Policemen had been asleep. The two suspects had escaped at 4.20 am and even after an hour after their escape Police were not aware of their escape.
Following this incident the OIC of the station acted swiftly and following a full investigation directed a police team to apprehend the suspects. The suspects were apprehended and arrested.
Meanwhile an investigation has commenced on the three Police constables who were on duty at the time if the escape.Disciplinary action will be taken and two of the Constables.
