The Agriculture and Plantation Industries Ministry has taken steps to merge the two fertilizer companies, the Sri Lanka Fertilizer Company and the Colombo Commercial Fertilizer Company, which are owned by the Government.
Accordingly, these two Government-owned fertilizer companies are going to work as one company under one Chairman and one Board of Directors.
Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has taken steps to bring these two companies, which previously operated under two chairmens and two Boards of Directors, under one Chairman.
By merging the institutions divided under the same subject, it is expected to reduce the wastage of public money and to maximize the profit of the respective institutions.
The Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industries Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera states that steps will be taken to merge a number of other institutions under the same subject under the Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industries in the near future.
Dr. Jagath Perera, who currently serves as the Chairman of the two companies, said that there is a lot of room for the state-owned Ceylon Fertilizer Company and Commercial Fertilizer Company to be renamed as State Fertilizer Corporation.
