Two held for selling prohibited stimulants online

The Walana Police Anti-Corruption Unit which investigated an organized racket of selling banned stimulant performance-enhancing drugs in sports online, arrested two suspects with a stock of drugs worth more than Rs.40 million.

The suspects were arrested from Wattala and Borella. The investigation was supported by the Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency and the Food and Drug Control Department.

Five types of banned injections and pills had been seized from the Borella shop of the suspects used as a centre to distribute the drugs.

It has also been found in the investigation that these prohibited stimulants are produced in Belgium and the United Kingdom. It has been revealed in the investigation that these banned stimulants are sold at prices between 10,000 and 12,000 rupees and they are mostly bought by bodybuilders, athletes, rugby players, weightlifters and cyclists.
