Two held with Kerala cannabis valued at over Rs. 41 Mn

A special search operation conducted by the Navy in the coastal vicinity of Vaddukoddai, Jaffna on Sunday (29) led to the arrest of two suspects along with about 104 kgs of Kerala cannabis and a three-wheeler.

SLNS Uththara and SLNS Agbo Naval establishments in the Northwestern Naval Command conducted this search operation on a road in the coastal vicinity of Vaddukoddai on Sunday. During subsequent search, Naval personnel seized about 104 kgs of Kerala cannabis being transported in a three-wheeler, which was intercepted on suspicion.

The stock of Kerala cannabis was in 50 parcels which had been contained in three sacks. Further, the Navy also held two suspects in connection to this incident.

The gross street value of the seized Kerala cannabis is believed to be over Rs. 41 million.

The suspects held in the operation are residents of Madagal and Kilinochchi, aged 25 and 40. The suspects along with Kerala cannabis and the three-wheeler were handed over to the Vaddukoddai Police for onward legal action.
