Two illegally imported jeeps found in Kahathuduwa
The Panadura Walana Central Anti-Corruption Task Force said that two jeeps suspected to have been illegally imported by a millionaire businessman engaged in automobile business in Kurunegala were found hidden in the garden of a house where he resides with his wife in Rilawala, Kahathuduwa.
One of those jeeps is an intercooler Pajero jeep and the other jeep is a Montero Rus type jeep.
Police said the chassis number of the jeep which had been registered had been deleted and the jeep where the chassis number was clear had not been registered.
According to the information received by Panadura Walana anti-corruption task force that there were two illegally imported jeeps, the officers went to the location and conducted investigations and only the wife of the businessman was in the house at the time. When inquired about the whereabouts of the businessman, his wife said that he had gone to the market near the house and the Police officers waited for some time till the businessman returned home. A senior Police officer said that the two vehicles were taken into Police custody and handed over to the Kahatuduwa Police custody due to the fact that the businessman avoided the Police officers by not returning home.
Police said they will report the matter to the court against the concerned businessman under the Penal Law Act, the Public Property Act, the Motor Vehicle Act and the Customs Act.
