A female passenger and the driver of a SLTB bus travelling from Bandarawela to Colombo were injured and admitted to Thanamalvila hospital after two people hiding in the bushes in Kumaragama area in the Thanamalwila – Udawalawa road pelted stones at the bus.
Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana has informed the Inspector General to investigate this incident and enforce the law against the culprits.
The minister has also informed the IGP that those responsible for the incident should be immediately arrested and given the maximum punishment as the harassment caused to the passengers due to such acts cannot be taken lightly.
The incident had happened on Monday. At that time, there was a group of people going to the office for work in this bus and the injured woman is a nurse.
The Thanamalwila police suspect that the attack may have been instigated by a private bus owner who was upset over a problem that arose regarding the allocation of time for buses to travel in the particular route. The police are investigating.
