An Army soldier and another who tried to kidnap and rob a young man in a three-wheeler, impersonating as policemen at Bastian Mawatha, Pettah, were arrested last Wednesday (28) by a Sergeant of the Pettah Police.
A 23-year-old youth was halted by a three-wheeler near the railway station and a person there introduced himself as a police officer and checked the young man saying that he received information that the youth has drugs.
After checking, the young man was told to come to the police station by the two suspects.
But that the three-wheeler was randomly inspected by Sergeant Pushpakumara of the Traffic Division of the Pettah Police near the Bo Tree and found that the suspects were not police officers and arrested them. Pettah police said that one of the suspects was a 38-year-old army soldier from the Panagoda Amy Camp.
The two suspects are addicted to drugs, and they have committed several such crimes earlier, Police said.
Pettah Police are investigating.
