Two killed, 15 injured in bus accident in Saliyawewa

Two people were killed and 15 others injured in an accident involving a luxury passenger bus and a motorcycle in the Saliyawewa Police Division yesterday (22).

According to Police, the accident occurred near the Mahahenyaya Junction on the Puttalam–Trincomalee Road when a luxury passenger bus travelling from Colombo to Mannar collided with a motorcycle travelling ahead in the same direction.

Following the collision, the bus driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into a nearby bridge before hitting a high-voltage electricity pole and overturning.

The motorcycle rider, bus driver, conductor and 14 bus passengers sustained injuries and were admitted to the Puttalam Hospital.

However, the motorcycle rider and a female passenger travelling in the bus succumbed to their injuries after being admitted to the hospital.

The deceased have been identified as a 38-year-old resident of Saliyawewa and a 30-year-old woman from Rambewa.
