Two Lankan dons among top microbiologists in China

According to the ranking of the top microbiologists in China, two Sri Lankan scientists have been ranked the 11th and 15th best microbiologists.

Prof. Lakshman Samaranayake and Prof. Malik Peiris have been ranked as 11th and 15th best scientists respectively. According to a survey conducted by Research.com, two professors have been ranked among 43,737 scientists in the world.

Both professors are Emeritus Professors of the University of Peradeniya and are world renowned for their microbiological clinical work. They have been awarded honorary doctorates by the University of Peradeniya for their contributions to medical research.

Professor Samaranayake is also the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Hong Kong and the university became the number one dental school in the world in 2015 according to the QS World University Rankings, under his leadership.

The clinical microbiology work of these scientists is known worldwide.
