Two more suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of Parliamentarian Amarakeerthi Athukorala and his bodyguard in Nittambuwa, during the unrest on May 9.
Accordingly, Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that a total of 21 suspects have been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department so far in connection to the incident.
On June 1, a 19-year-old suspect had been arrested in connection with the incident. “He was working at a clothing store in the vicinity where the MP was killed. Another 40-year-old suspect was also arrested on Thursday. He is a carpenter and Police suspect him to be involved in the killing of the Parliamentarian and his security officer. The clothing worn by the suspects at the time of the incident and a mobile phone were also taken into the custody of the police and produced as court productions.”
He said that several other suspects are scheduled to be arrested and the Police are gathering evidence and analyzing the video footage of the incident at present.
