Nethmika Madushani Herath of Nannapurawa MV, Moneragala and Paranththaman Abishalini of Chavakachcheri Hindu College performed well on the first day of the Junior National Championship at the Sugathadasa Stadium before the afternoon session was curtailed by the curfew imposed on Monday. Both of them were able to set up new junior meet records.
In the Under 18 girls long jump, Nethmika Madushani cleared 5.98 metres to establish a new meet record.
Meanwhile In the Under 18 girls’ pole vault, Paranththaman Abishalini of Chavakachcheri Hindu College cleared 3.15 metres to establish a new record.
However, after the curfew imposed on Monday afternoon, Sri Lanka Athletics postponed the remaining events on day one and the three next three days and they are expected to continue this meet once again after country’s situation returns to normal.
According to G.LS Perera, Sri Lanka junior athletes are keen to hold this meet which serves as world junior meet final selection trial.
