Two police teams probing prison guard’s attack in Minuwangoda

Two police teams have started an extensive investigation to arrest the underworld criminals who broke into the house of a prison guard in Minuwangoda, put a pistol to the head of the prison guard and threatened him with death.

The Minuwangoda police say that the prison guard who was attacked was strictly enforcing the law to prevent drugs coming into the prison. It has been revealed to the intelligence agencies that this officer, who is famous in the prison as an officer who implements the law to the letter, has received threats from underworld criminals from time to time. Intelligence agencies have also found that this officer has become a headache for some corrupt prison officials as well. The prison officer, who was injured in the attacks, is currently receiving treatment in Minuwangoda Hospital.

The group who came to attack the officer had threatened him mentioning his efforts to prevent drugs coming into prison.These three armed underworld criminals have come on a motorcycle.

The immediate cause of this assault investigating officer believe is the seizure of drugs by this officer which were smuggled in to the prison reportedly by drug dealer in Maradana for his birthday party about a month ago. During further investigations, it has been revealed that the drugs was brought into the prison allegedly by a higher ranking officer.

It is stated that an internal investigation is currently being conducted by the prison in this regard. An attack on this officer had happened after the Maradana drug dealer was released on bail. A strong suspicion has arisen among the prison officials that there could be a link between the attack at the drug dealers release.
