Finance State Minister Shehan Semasinghe told Parliament yesterday (28) that two investigations will be conducted regarding the disappearance of Rs.5 million from a safe at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.The Minister said this in reply to MP Niroshan Perera.
The State Minister also mentioned that these investigations will be conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department and the Internal Investigation Unit of the Central Bank.
The State Minister said that a special programme is in place to protect the money deposited in the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
The Minister who commented further said,”We issued a statement regarding the incident at the issue vault. Currently, the Central Bank is conducting an internal investigation regarding this incident. An investigation is also being carried out by Police and the Criminal Investigation Department. A clear statement can be given in this regard after the investigations are over. The Central Bank Governor has also requested the Inspector General to complete the investigations as soon as possible. In the future, this council will be informed about it.”
