Madurankuliya Police say that two workers who were engaged in disconnecting the electricity supply were brutally attacked by a group of people including a businessman involved in the supply of sand.
The two workers injured in the attack have been admitted to hospital.
The two workers are attached to the Puttalam office belonging to the Ceylon Electricity Board. They had reportedly disconnected the power supply to the businessman’s office on orders from superior officers as the businessman had failed to pay his electricity bill.
The two workers have told the Police they had notified a woman who was at the said premises about the disconnection of the power supply and had also informed her that power will be restored only after the overdue payments were settled.
The two employees have complained to the Police that four people, including the sand businessman, had brutally assaulted them when they were leaving the place after disconnecting the electricity supply.
Madurankuliya Police have started investigations in connection with this incident and say that the relevant suspects will be arrested in due course.
