The Police Special Task Force and Punewa Police have arrested two persons including the manager of the Vavuniya Co-operative Fuel Station who were ready to sell a Buddha statue which was said to have been unearthed in a treasure hunt for Rs. 2.5 million.
Yesterday (16) the Police Media Spokesperson’s office said that the statue has a mixture of gold and other metals and it weighs 01 kg and 546 grams.
The arrested cooperative fuel station manager is a 32-year-old resident of Vavuniya Mamaduwa Road. Police say that the other suspect is a 28-year-old farmer from Vavuniya.
The Punewa Police stated that these two suspects were remanded until October 30 after being presented to the Medawachchiya Magistrate’s Court yesterday (16).
