The Sri Lanka Seven-A-Side Rugby Team suffered a major setback ahead of the Commonwealth Games when two of their key players tested positive for COVID-19 hours before their departure to Birmingham, England.

Winger Kavindu Perera (Kandy SC) and prop forward Adeesha Weeratunga (Navy SC) were tested positive during a random test and the two players were replaced by Iroshan Silva of Police SC and Ramesh Fernando of Havelock SC.

Meanwhile, the 13-member Sri Lanka Sevens Rugby Team captained by Srinath Sooriyabandara left yesterday with their first game coming up against defending champions New Zealand at the Coventry Stadium on July 29.

The Sri Lanka Men’s team have been drawn in Pool ‘A’ alongside New Zealand, England and Samoa.
