Two soldiers emerge champions at highway cycle race

Nimesha Dilrukshi and Niran Pasindu, both from the Sri Lanka Army, emerged champions at the first local highway cycle race that began yesterday morning at the Mirigama highway entrance.

Niran finished the race in one hour, 51 minutes, and 35 seconds. The junior men’s event was won by Tharanga Fernando of Ratmalana’s Golden CC.

The event was organised by the Ministries of Youth and Sports and Highways, in collaboration with the Cycling Federation. Over 30 sports clubs took part in this 80-kilometre race from Mirigama to Yaggapitiya, and back to Mirigama. The winners received cash awards worth over Rs.800,000.
