Two women who assaulted cop remanded till tomorrow

Two women who assaulted a constable of the Colombo City Traffic Police in Cinnamon Gardens were arrested by the Police in the early hours of yesterday.

This officer who participated in an operation to nab drunk drivers, was returning to the police station on his motorcycle.

He had run out of petrol and as a result he had to push the motorcycle.

The police said that two women and a man who were drinking alcohol after parking their car in the wayside near the Gregory’s Road and Maitland Crescent junction in Colombo 7 had started insulting the Police officer who was pushing the motorcycle with obscene words for no apparent reason.

The officer had then stopped the motorcycle and went near the car to find out who these people were. It is said that the officer had turned on the camera of his mobile phone to video them.

Police said that the two women then attacked the Police officer. The Police officer who was injured has been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. Police have arrested the two women in this regard. They that the women are aged 43 and 30, residing in Colombo 3 and Colombo 14.

The Police say that the suspects have been remanded until November 8 after being produced before the Aluthkade Magistrate’s Court.
