Udara Chetani fine athlete and cricketer

Athlete, Swimmer, Cricketer, Left hand middle order bat and Right arm medium pace bowler, Captain of the under nineteen cricket team for four consecutive years at Mahamaya, Club cricketer Development Squad Member and member of the Colombo Colts Ladies Cricket Club team Udara Chetani Bandara has brought honour and immense glory to her alma mater Mahamaya College Kandy.

She was admitted to the school in 2005. When she was in grade four she took part at the school inter house sports meet and came third in Long Jump and in 4×100 metre relay event her team won and when she was in grade seven her 4×100 relay team participated at the Divisional and Zonal Teams and she did Long Jump In addition from grade three to six she did swimming for four years and her events were Free Style and Back Stroke.

Though she did athletics and swimming her parents RanasingheBandara of Sri Lanka Army and Asintha Darshani handed over their daughter to School Cricket Coach former Rajan Upananda Jayasundara and she commenced with the Soft ball and participated for the Inter House Cricket Tournaments.

Her School commenced playing in hard ball when she was in grade nine and she captained the school teams of under 19 for four successive years and Amila Pinnaduwa took over as the coach from Mr. Jayasundara and Chamari Inginiwatte was the teacher in charge

During her cricket career at school she has scored three fifties and in 2017 for her all round performances she was awarded school colours for cricket. She represented the Kandy District Team and she opened the attack in that tournament and her Coach was Mr.Amila and from there she was selected to the Super Provincial Team and representing the Central Province in 2017 she captured 19 wickets and after her higher studies she shifted to Athurugiriya, Homagama

In the meantime she joined the Chilaw Marians and represented the Ladies Team and and later she played for the Sky Cricket Club Malabe and with these performances she was selected for the National Development Squad. She toured Dubai in 2021 and that Tournament was a fine exposure for her. This year she joined the Colombo Colts Cricket Club and she represented them at the RU Sixes Tournament conducted by Rupavahini in connection with the Women’s Day.
