Umrah travel operators warned over possible flight disruptions in Saudi Arabia

The Sri Lanka Hajj Mission under the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs have issued an urgent warning instructing all registered Umrah travel operators to take immediate precautions and exercise strict due diligence when arranging pilgrimages, following regional developments and potential disruptions to flights to and from Saudi Arabia.
The directive, issued on October 16, 2026, references an earlier security advisory released by the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Jeddah on October 13, 2026 and comes after reports revealed that a considerable number of pilgrims who traveled without taking adequate precautions are currently experiencing severe difficulties and inconveniences in Saudi Arabia.
Authorities have ordered travel operators to ensure that all prospective pilgrims are fully informed of the prevailing situation in the region, the possibility of flight disruptions, and the critical importance of making suitable contingency plans before commencing their journeys.
The department cautioned that operators who proceed with travel arrangements without duly considering relevant advisories and prevailing circumstances will bear full responsibility for any risks, losses, or legal consequences under applicable laws and regulations.
Furthermore, official bodies including the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of Saudi Arabia, the Sri Lanka Hajj Mission, the Hajj and Umrah Committee, and the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs have explicitly disclaimed liability for any hardships or losses resulting from failure to adhere to these instructions. Operators are strongly urged to act responsibly and comply strictly with the notice to safeguard the overall safety and well being of Sri Lankan Umrah pilgrims. (Newswire)
