The Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association, in collaboration with Sri Lanka Cricket, will hold the Under-19 Schools Cricket Awards 2023 on October 17 from 3.30 pm at the BMICH in Colombo.

The ceremony is a long-standing annual event of prestige and traditional significance which celebrates the top performing talent in the schools Under-19 cricket season.

The much-awaited event this year, which will be held at the BMICH in Colombo, will see a total of over 100 awards being presented on the day, with over 1500 school cricketers (boys and girls) expected to take part along with officials. Awards will be presented for the U19 Boys Two-Day Tournament, the U19 Limited Over Tournament, and the U19 Girls Tournaments conducted during the school cricket season of 2022–23.

The leading awards among those presented will be the national awards presented to the Best Batter, Best Bowler, Best Fielder, Best All-Rounder, and School Boy Cricketer of the Year 2023. Awards will also be presented covering district and provincial cricket in U19 school cricket.

The prestigious ‘Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year’ Award has been a mainstay in the schools cricketing calendar. Many award winners over the years in previous editions of the event have gone on to represent Sri Lanka at national level, achieved international success and are known as legends of Sri Lankan Cricket. Sri Lanka Cricket, which has been working tirelessly to sustain and promote school cricket in the country, has taken the initiative to fully fund the ceremony and the awards presented today as a measure of solidifying the empowerment of our future cricket stars on and off the field.

“We are well aware of the role school cricket plays in Sri Lanka to build our future talent pool; hence, it is our responsibility to help keep this segment of the game at the highest level so that we have cricketers coming out of the system to feed our club, development, and national system,” said Shammi Silva, President, Sri Lanka Cricket.

“We are extremely happy to conduct this award ceremony, which will help us recognize and encourage young cricketers to continue to pursue cricket and aim to reach the highest level of the game.
