UNFPA marks 50 years with stamp

A special commemorative programme was held in Colombo to mark the 30th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), first held in Cairo in 1994 and the 50th anniversary of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) after beginning operations in Sri Lanka. A special commemorative stamp worth Rs. 50 was issued under the patronage of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana to mark 50 years of UNFPA’s mission in this country. Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, First Lady, Professor Maithri Wickremesinghe, Health State Minister Dr. Seetha Arambepola, MP Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, representatives of the United Nations Population Fund, (UNFPA) local and foreign officials and civil society representatives attended the event.
