A special meeting between the representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Christian Skoog and Health Secretary Palitha Mahipala was held at the Health Ministry recently.
During the meeting, the UNICEF Representative, informed the Health Secretary about the programmes and projects that the organisation is implementing in relation to the health sector in Sri Lanka.
A survey and research on the next steps to be taken to further raise the level of child nutrition in Sri Lanka has already been implemented, and after the completion of the project, the related report will be given to the Health Secretary and steps will be taken to implement the future programme by taking his advice and guidance.
He also pointed out that the vaccination process in Sri Lanka has been running in a formal and well-organised manner since the past. It was also suggested to prepare a formal work schedule.
The free health service operating in Sri Lanka has received international acclaim, and the health indicators of the country reflect this well. Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana is leading the Health Ministry by resolving the existing problems and ensuring that the free health service in Sri Lanka is quality. He emphasized that it is a matter of happiness that we are working to make it an efficient service.
The Health Secretary also recalled the contributions made for many years in various fields for the people of this country.
Health and Nutrition Manager of UNICEF Dr. Abner Daniel and Health and Nutrition Officer, Community Health Specialist Dr. Dhammika Rowell also participated.
