Universities to compete at CFA Institute Research Challenge Sri Lanka

CFA Society Sri Lanka has announced that teams from the University of Colombo, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and two teams from the University of Kelaniya have qualified for the local finals, following an extensive grading process, scheduled for February 27, at the Colombo Stock Exchange.

Each university team consisting of five students will present their analysis and buy/sell/hold recommendations on the subject company, hSenid Business Solutions PLC, to a panel of distinguished judges from the investment community.

The winning team of the local finals will advance to the sub-regional competition and have a chance to progress to the regional and global competitions thereafter.This year, the CFA Institute Global Research Challenge competition will be held on May 13, in Warsaw, Poland.

CFA Society Sri Lanka President Aruna Perera, said that this time witnessed the highest number of teams participating at this annual educational initiative, which promotes best practices in equity research among the next generation of analysts through hands-on mentoring and intensive training in company analysis and presentation skills.

The teams that participated represented both public and private universities – University of Colombo, University of Jaffna, University of Kelaniya, University of Moratuwa, University of Peradeniya, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, University of Wayamba, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, NSBM Green University and Royal Institute of Colombo.

CFA, Chairperson of the Research Challenge Committee of CFA Society Sri Lanka Eneeshya Perera, was pleased with the enthusiastic response from universities participating in the CFA Institute Research Challenge Sri Lanka 2023/24.

This initiative not only promotes excellence in equity investment research but also equips students with essential skills and training on aspects such as financial analysis, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) considerations and effective communication. She looks forward to the presentations from the top four teams at the final event and extendsher best wishes to all participants.

This year, the CFA Institute Research Challenge hosted by CFA Society Sri Lanka is sponsored by the Colombo Stock Exchange, as a Platinum sponsor reaffirming their dedication to empowering the next generation of analysts and investors.
