UNP begins new membership drive
The United National Party (UNP) has decided to launch a nationwide political campaign and meetings from the beginning of the new year in order to attract new members and support for the party.
Political activities are initiated under the auspices of youth organizations, women’s groups, local government bodies, people’s representatives and grassroots membership programmes.
UNP General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara stated that the UNP organizers have been told to get involved in full-time political activities from next week as the party’s policy formulation work has been completed on the instructions of the UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The UNP General Secretary said that with the commencement of grassroots party politics, the programme of introducing new organizers who will handle responsibilities at the electorate level will also be launched.
UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene, Chairman Vajira Abeywardena and General Secretary Palitha Rangebandara will spearhead the UNP’s political activities in the new year.
