UNP can rebuild country – Chairman
United National Party (UNP) Chairman Vajira Abeywardena said that the Party has a responsibility to rebuild the country.
He pointed out that the country should be handed over to a leader who can rebuild the country without looking at hypocrisy and hatred and now it is not the time to look for leaders to try out, train or find new leaders but to rebuild the country through a capable and experienced leader.
Abeywardena expressed these views while participating in the progress review meeting held at the Habaraduwa electorate recently regarding the UNP reorganizationprogramme.
He said members of our parties think everything would turn out to be right if we unite. Although they contested together on January 8, 2015, they lost in the Kalutara District. When he was defeated Rajitha was given a Ministry.
“When D.S. Senanayake formed the party there was power in only two electorates. D. S. Senanayake did not leave the party. He tried for a year and obtained 42 seats. In Sri Lanka at that time there were only 92 seats. There was no majority. However, who was the PrimeMinister? D.S. How is that? He used his brain and worked properly. D. S. Senanayake became the Prime Minister not by winning but by losing,” he said.He said the UNP has always won with the support of the left. There is no instance when a government was formed without the support of the Left.
