US Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan visits Sri Lanka

U.S. Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan is leading a Congressional Delegation (CODEL) to Sri Lanka from July 27-30, aimed at strengthening the bilateral partnership and advancing shared priorities in the Indo-Pacific region.

According to the U.S. Embassy in Colombo, Houlahan and the delegation will hold high-level meetings with government, military and political leaders, including Deputy Minister of Defence Major General (Retd.) Aruna Jayasekara, Deputy Speaker Dr. Rizvie Salih, and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.

Discussions are expected to focus on a range of bilateral issues, including countering transnational crime, expanding commercial and economic ties, and enhancing regional stability and security cooperation.

Houlahan, an Air Force veteran, serves on the U.S. House Armed Services Committee, where she is the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Military Personnel, and is also a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

The U.S. Embassy said the visit underscores Washington’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Sri Lanka and promoting a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. (Newswire)
