The United States has launched fresh military strikes on multiple targets in Iran, with the US Central Command (CENTCOM) describing the operation as an act of “self-defense” in response to what it called Iran’s “unwarranted and continued aggression”.
Iranian media reported explosions in several locations, including the strategic port city of Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, and the southern towns of Sirik and Minab. Air defence systems were also activated in western Tehran, according to local reports.
The latest attacks come after US President Donald Trump warned that further military action against Iran was imminent, accusing Tehran of delaying negotiations.
“They’ve taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them; now they will have to pay the price,” Trump said.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Mehr News Agency reported that the country’s military had ordered the complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz to all vessels, including oil tankers and commercial ships. The report could not be independently verified.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important shipping routes, with a significant portion of global oil exports passing through the narrow waterway. (Newswire)
