Vandersay and Williams were the best in the ODI series
Sri Lankan leg spinner Jeffrey Vandasay came on top of the bowlers while Zimbabwe’ s Sean Williams finished as the highest run scorer of at the three ODI super League match series played at Pallekele International cricket stadium.
Vandasay who was recalled to the side after 2019 world cup in place of Wanindu Hasaranga finished with nine wickets in three matches .He finished the series in grand style at the final ODI while taking 4 for 10 which was his best ODI bowling figures . Zimbabwe’ s Richard Ngarava the left arm medium paceman was placed second with six wickets while Chamika Karunaratne and Zimbabwe’ s Blessing Muzarabani finished the series with five wickets each.
Meanwhile Sean Williams was the most successful batter with 154 with a century having 51.33 average while Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka and Charirh Asalanka came second with 146 runs each having 48.66 average . both yougesters Nissanka and Asalanka were able to score two fifties each in this three match series . However Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka who made his maiden century at the second ODI said Sri Lankan top order batters should go for the three figure mark and that is more important to make a good total and also reduce the pressure for the middle order .
” It’s really good to have so many talented players sitting out with good performance and we haven’t had such depth for many years said Sri Lankan white ball skipper Dasun Shanaka after winning the Zimbabwe ODI series 2-1 t Winning the toss also played a big role in this decider and my team played with good team spirit to get success.
“We played with young side and they really performed well and it’s a good sign for Sri Sri Lanka cricket added Shanaka . Actually we had good temperament from yougsters at different times and we have found many players and the competition among players for places always good for them .The more challenges always bring good results and I am sure we can make good team in future said Dasun Shanaka who handled the team very well to get series win at this Super League tournament. Shanaka also mentioned more about his century in the second game .It was a different game and I had to play under pressure but always tried to play positive mood and finally we were close to the winning target .But I think I should have waited until the game finished .If I played until the finish to get victory this century would have been more valuable to the team said Shanaka who played at number six to build up the innings
Shanaka was keen to talk about paceman Dushmantha Chameera .I think he had good potential and game by game he improved his skills .Today he is a world class paceman . Especially after recovering from Covid 19 he was not up to the mark in second game .But during the final game especially at night with good movement from the ball Chameera came back strongly and he was able to get an early breakthrough as usual.
“ We have to look what’ s composition of the team especially out of the country. For next Australia tour the wickets will be suited for pacemen. We have Chameera while Nuwan Pradeep, Binura Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, Nuwan Thushara are going to be good investment for future and we have to focus for future games and I am very happy we have enough players for the future said Dasun Shanaka.
