Expanding their footprint overseas Venora Lanka Power Panels (Pvt) Ltd based at the Export Processing Zone, Biyagama, will open their electric panel assembly plant in Australia.
“The company would be investing around 2 million Australian dollars for this operation and will provide around 100 employment opportunities,” said Chairman/ Managing Director, engineer Sagara Gunawardena. After setting up the electric panel assembly plant in Australia towards the end of this year we will export all our panels from Sri Lanka and that plant will do 30% value addition and sell them in the Australian market which has huge potential to expand more in the future. “
He said that getting into Australia to do business is very easy as there is no red tape and we did not have to get to several places for approvals. “The Sri Lanka Board of Investment should take a clue from the Australian BOI and simplify and quicken the approval process.”
He also said that the BOI should also look at upgrading the existing zones as most of them need more infrastructure. The BOI increased their land rentals and to compensate for this they should provide more services.
Venora Lanka provides power panels to mega projects in Sri Lanka and exports to Bangladesh, Maldives, Kenya, Ethiopia, Seychelles and Myanmar and brings in the much needed dollars to the country while providing employment for local professionals, especially engineers. Gunawardena added that Venora Lanka Power Panels is the first Sri Lankan company to receive the license, in accordance with the UK Trade Mark Act 1994, to use the trade mark “Best Enterprise”. It won a global award at the event, ‘Golden Awards for Quality and Business Prestige’, held in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2015.
