Verite Research publishing false reports due to petty reasons – UNP

United National Party (UNP) General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara yesterday charged that because Nishan de Mel of Verite Research Institute was not given any positions in the Economic Stabilization Committee and the committee that advises the  Constitutional Council, the institution was publishing false reports that the public approval rating of the Government and the President has come down.

He was speaking at a media briefing at the UNP headquarters Sirikotha.

“The Verite Research Institute states that the current level of satisfaction with the government and the President has decreased to 9 percent. Earlier they reported approval rating of the Government was 34 percent and within one week it has come down to 9 percent. Can we believe this. There is a possibility of some decrease based on issues like increase in electricity bill. It should be emphasized that the political authorities appointed since 1994 are responsible for the price hikes”.

“When we compare the way we lived last March and the way it looks today, we understand very well where this President should be. Nishan de Mel of Verité Research was expecting a position in the Economic Stabilisation Committee. If he had been given a position, this institution would not have made such statements. The International Monetary Fund also proposed to appoint a committee to advice the CC.He wanted to be a member of that committee but that did not happen either. Then he has started saying things in support of the SJB and the JVP”.

“This gentleman was also behind recent speculation that the EPF and ETF interest will be lowered. We would like to tell him not to do such things for petty advantage while harming the country,” the UNP General Secretary said.
