Veteran actress Udula Dabare passes away

Veteran actress Udula Dabare passed away yesterday (26). She was 87.

Udula Dabare, who entered the Sinhala cinema with a minor role in the movie Kale Handa, became extremely popular after participating in various programmes of Karunaratne Abeysekara’s Lama Pitiya and Varada Kageda and Radala Piliruwa. Coming to the silver screen, she has acted in nearly 25 films.Among them, Duppathage Duka, Nalagana, DaruwaKageda, Surayanget Suraya, Hithuwakkaraya and Randiya Dahara are special.

In recognition of her acting skills, she received Namaskar Pooja Award at the Rajatha Jayanti Awards in 1997, Pioneer Award at the President’s Film Awards in 2005, and Padma Award in 2014.

Her remains lie at Matthegoda, Kirigampamunwa, Golden Meadows Housing Complex, No. 32/97. The funeral will take place today (27) at 4.00 pm at the Maththegoda Public Cemetery.
