Vidyartha College and Kingswood College are all-out to get rugby coaching staff. Vidyartha College is looking for coaches with background in the game with coaching experience and a dedication to fostering sportsmanship and skill development. They are inviting Head, Coach, and Assistant Coach for the senior side, Trainer for strength and conditioning,assistance coaches for under 14, 12 and 10. It was in the year 1959; Rugby was introduced to the Vidyartha College by some of the Old Trinitians like S.G. Mediwake, K.A. Perera and T. Muttiah who were then on the staff at the school, under the guidance of then Principal A. Athauda..
The Tigers have produced top teams and but also some of the finest players to the NationalTeam.
Kingswood College Rugby Union are keen to get experienced guys to handle their coaching. Kingswood College takes pride for being the first school to play rugby, Since 1980,Kingswood has been doing well in rugby and won the Tyrell Muttiah trophy in the same year emerged the Schools ‘B’ division champions. That was the start of their uplift and the man who guided them was Z.M. Zarook. Then in 1981,Kingswood were promoted to the ‘A’ division and ended up fourth in the Gratiaen Cup competition. In 1987, they had an excellent season, winning nine out of ten matches and also entered the R. Premadasa Knock-out tournament and went down to Trinity College by 11 points to 6 after leading 5-3 In the recent past, Kingswood has been at the top and in the year 2000, won the President’s Trophy for the first time under the captaincy of Chamara Vithanage. beating the Thomians30-26 Then in 2003, 2004 and 2005 they won the President’s Trophy. They also emerged Singer A division League champions in 2008, Seven of their players were picked to play for the Sri Lanka Youth Team in 2005.
Bodhi remembered
A Few days ago marked DIG. Bodhi Liyanage’s sixth death anniversary and a religous ceremony was held with an alms giving . he was an old boy of Mahinda College Galle where he took part in sports such as hockey,football and rugby at the university and after coming to Kandy this writer pulled him to sports and he became sports promoter where he gave a big hand to the police and the people of Kandy.
