Vinuka shines at Asian Chess Meet

Sri Lanka’s rising star Vinuka Wijeratne performed extremely well to win the Silver Medal in the Under-10 category at the Asian Schools Chess Championship held in Kyrgyzstan yesterday.

The Under-11 Sri Lankan Schools chess champion from Royal College, Colombo demonstrated excellent skills while securing the runner-up position with an impressive score of seven out of nine points.

It was a tightly contested battle with Vinuka showcasing unwavering determination to snatch second place despite the heavy odds against him. Meanwhile, Oriyat Obidjonov from Uzbekistan emerged as the champion in this age group category while impressing all with a remarkable score of 7.5 points out of nine points.

The fight for the second runner-up position was intense, resulting in a thrilling tie among three players. With a superior tiebreak, Sardor Saidov from Uzbekistan claimed the Bronze

Medal adding another shining moment to his chess journey.
