The champion St. Joseph’s College Colombo swimming team

Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo and St. Joseph’s College Colombo exelled at the 46th National Age Group Aquatic Championship which concluded recently at the Sugathadasa Stadium swimming pool complex. The two schools dominated this meet while collecting 354 points and 556 points respectively.

Visakhians and the Josephians continued their fine form in swimming when they emerged champions most of the times. Ruwan Manawadu the experienced coach who is the man behind rhe success of St Joseph’s swimming once again did a good job as his team came to the front with a superb performance.

Ruwan Manawadu hails from Ambalangoda already rendering fine service to St Josephs and for more than 25 years his services were provided for the young Josephian swimmers. He has already produced so many talented National swimmers who have broughtt honour to the country. Coaching for more than 25 years at the same school is a remarkable achievement and Josephians are lucky to get his services to build up their talents.

St Joseph’s won first place with 556 points while their arch rivals St Peters Bambalapitiya was placed second with 378 and third placed was D.S Senanayake Vidyalaya Colombo with 201 points. Meanwhile Vishakians dominated the girls event collecting 354 points followed by Ladies College (245 points) and Lyceum International Wattala (234 points.)

Two National records were set up by renowned Sri Lankan swimmer Akalanka Pieris (under 20 and boys 50m Breast stroke and Minagi Rupasinghe in the under 20 girls 1500m free style.
