Visitor restriction at Vavuniya Prison lifted

The visitor restrictions imposed at the Vavuniya Prisons, due to an epidemic, have been lifted.

Due to one prisoner and one prison officer having contracted Chicken Pox, as a precautionary measure, restrictions were imposed to contain the epidemic by the prison authorities.

From June 25, the restrictions were imposed for two weeks.

The Vavuniya Epidemiology Unit has informed the prison authorities regarding the situation as having returned to normal. Steps have been taken by the Prison authorities to send back the prisoners who were held temporarily in secured premises in the Vavuniya Prison.
