Warrant on fourth accused in ‘Thejan’ boat triple murder case
The Colombo High Court yesterday issued warrant against the fourth accused who has been evaded the Court for several days while the case was fixed for the Judgement, for the immediate arrest and produce him before the Court over the case filed against 11 accused for allegedly forcibly hijacking the ‘Thejan’ boat before 12 years ago and killing three fishermen who were travelling in it and throwing several others into the sea and inflicting mortal injuries in Sri Lanka waters.
When the case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Adithya Patabendige to deliver its judgement, the Judge observed that the fourth accused in the case had evaded Court for several days. Considering the circumstances, the Judge ordered to issue the warrant against Wanigabaduge Sampath Thushara alias ‘Podi’ and also ordered to execute the warrant through the Southern Province Senior Deputy Inspector General.
The Judge also ordered to inform the warrant against the accused to the Tangalle Police OIC as there is no officer appearance from the Tangalle Police before the Court to inform it.
Considering the facts, the case was fixed again for the judgement on January 22 by the Colombo High Court.
The Attorney General had filed indictment against 11 accused including Anusha Uthpala Amaraweera alias ‘Chooty’, Pasikku Hennadige Nuwan Lakmal, Thelge Dinushka Priyashantha, Wanigabaduge Sampath Thushara alias ‘Podi’, Pasikku Hennadige Dayananda, Wanigabaduge Sisira Kumara, Nihal Nishantha alias ‘Sanjeewa’, Ajith Kumara alias ‘Chandi’, Kathaluwahewage Ranjith Nishantha, Wanigabaduge Telsi Kalyani, Ediriweera Kattadi Arachchige Nihal under 14 counts for allegedly forcibly hijacking the ‘Thejan’ boat and killing three fishermen who were travelling in it and throwing several others into the sea and inflicting mortal injuries in Sri Lanka waters on October 15 in 2012 under Penal Code and Piracy Act.
The first accused and the sixth accused had passed away during the trial and the case was tried against the other accused.
