Water aerodrome at Colombo Port City
Preliminary work in the construction of a new water aerodrome at the Colombo Port City has been completed, Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said.
In-principle approval has already been given for the construction of Water Aerodrome at the Colombo Port City as a measure of promoting tourism in the country,” he added.
The Minister made these remarks during the special discussion held at the Ministry yesterday regarding the development of domestic airports across the country.
Five domestic airports located in tourism areas will be upgraded with the latest facilities in order to promote the tourism industry. Accordingly, Sigiriya, Koggala, Ampara, Anuradhapura and Hingurakgoda domestic airports will be developed as fully-fledged domestic airports. Its purpose is to provide services to local and foreign tourists,” he added.
The Minister said it is important to improve the facilities at the Batticaloa domestic airport for the benefit of the local and international tourists engaged in beach tourism activities in Eastern Province. Meanwhile, plans are afoot to resume international flights operations at the Ratmalana International airport after five decades.
