We have taken legal steps to protect SLFP – Minister Amaraweera
By now we have got the ownership of both the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the party head office. We have taken legal steps to protect the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. Therefore, soon all the acting positions in this party will end. With that, Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister and Senior Vice President of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Mahinda Amaraweera said that we are working to move this party forward with new strength.
The Minister expressed these views while participating in a public meeting held in Hambantota recently after observing an agricultural cultivation project in the Walasmulla area.
The Minister also said: “We started politics with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. And we will end our politics someday with this party. Therefore, there is no time to find anyone’s mistakes. What we need to do now is to rebuild this party that collapsed in the past.
“There will be no more two or three factions called the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. There is only one faction called the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. Also, meetings of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party will not be held anywhere without party headquarters. From now on, our party meetings will be held only at the party headquarters.
“In the past, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party was not invited to the programmes at least by the media organisations. The pride of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party had been destroyed. You know that on the last May Day, a large crowd came to rallies and public meetings of all the parties. But what did our party do? About 150 people were brought and a meeting was held in a small tent. President Ranil Wickremesinghe brought large crowds to the UNP meeting. Samagi Jana Balawegaya and JVP also gathered many crowds at their May Day rallies.
“But the Sri Lanka Freedom Party is not a party that wants to fall like that. Our party is the beginning of the majority of party members in all parties in this country. People from all parties congratulated us for the steps we took to protect the SLFP.
Regardless, the majority of people in our country still love our party. Therefore, on the 8th, we will start showing the strength of our party from Ambalantota. After that, in every district like Monaragala, Badulla, etc., we will organise meetings to increase the strength of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party”.
Therefore, we should all unite and protect this party, the Minister further said.
